We’re partnering with a leading lifestyle brand collective to find a Director of Planning who will lead strategic planning across one of the company’s most important retail partnerships.
Why This Role Matters
This is a high-impact opportunity to drive the financial and operational success of a key retail account. As the Director of Planning, you’ll oversee sales forecasting, inventory strategy, and merchandise planning while managing a team of planners and sales operations professionals. You’ll play a pivotal role in aligning cross-functional teams, driving collaboration with the retail partner, and ensuring flawless execution across seasonal and promotional cycles.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Planning & Financial Leadership
- Develop and manage 12-month sales, margin, and inventory plans in partnership with Sales and Finance.
- Reconcile top-down and bottom-up forecasts to ensure alignment with open-to-buy (OTB) and modular strategies.
- Present financial performance, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership and key retail partners.
Merchandise & Assortment Planning
- Lead seasonal assortment planning, incorporating trend analysis, historical data, and modular requirements.
- Partner with buyers on product walkthroughs and line reviews to ensure strategic and financial alignment.
- Manage Annual Event program planning and execution.
Operational Oversight & Execution
- Oversee ladder plans, buyer reports, daily sales trackers, and forecasting tools.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance in item setup, pricing, and packaging across retail systems.
- Validate SAP and related data systems for integrity and accuracy.
- Approve purchase orders, track inbound shipments, and manage allocation reporting.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and mentor a team of planners and coordinators, fostering accountability and analytical excellence.
- Provide clear guidance, professional development, and performance feedback to build a strong, cohesive team.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as the key planning liaison between Sales, Design, Production, and retail partner teams.
- Lead business reviews and planning meetings to align on strategy, timelines, and priorities.
What You Bring
- 10+ years of experience in planning within wholesale or retail environments.
- Strong background managing complex retail accounts, with Walmart experience preferred.
- Expertise in planning systems including Retail Link, Scintilla, Supplier One, Luminate, and SAP.
- Advanced Excel skills with proven ability to manage ladder planning, modular execution, and OTB forecasting.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence across teams and stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and leadership abilities.
- Experience in apparel or licensed categories is a plus.
- Willingness to travel to retail partner sites as needed.
