Controller – On-site (NC)

Website Hire With Jarvis - Lance Melendez

At Hire With Jarvis, we help organizations of all sizes hire the right people, in the right seats, at the right time.

We are partnering with a fast-growing consumer brand to find a Controller who thrives in high-ownership environments and is excited to build, scale, and own an accounting function from the ground up. This is a unique opportunity to step into a hands-on leadership role where you will directly shape financial operations while working closely with senior leadership.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being both strategic and deeply involved in execution. You will not just oversee processes. You will build them, refine them, and ensure they scale alongside a rapidly growing business.

The Opportunity
As Controller, you will take full ownership of day-to-day accounting while partnering closely with the CFO. You will be responsible for maintaining financial accuracy, improving processes, and ensuring the business has reliable, timely insights to support decision-making.

This is a build-and-own role where you will operate as the primary accounting leader while remaining hands-on with core accounting responsibilities. Over time, you will also support the development of a growing team.

  • Ensure consistent and accurate revenue recognition
  • Partner with leadership on financial reporting and board-level materials

Retail and Operational Finance

  • Manage accounting for deductions, chargebacks, and trade spend
  • Reconcile accounts receivable and collaborate cross-functionally to resolve discrepancies
  • Support inventory accounting across manufacturers and logistics partners
  • Monitor cash flow and working capital performance
  • Provide visibility into SKU-level profitability

Process Improvement and Controls

  • Strengthen accounting processes, documentation, and internal controls
  • Improve close timelines while maintaining high accuracy
  • Support audit readiness and external accounting relationships
  • Evaluate and implement systems, tools, and automation
  • Build scalable infrastructure to support continued growth

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Operations, Sales, and Marketing teams
  • Translate financial data into clear, actionable insights
  • Identify risks, trends, and opportunities proactively
  • Support strategic decision-making with accurate financial data

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3 to 7 plus years of accounting experience in public accounting, CPG, or high-growth environments
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and retail accounting dynamics
  • Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical thinking
  • Comfortable operating independently while partnering with senior leadership
  • CPA is preferred but not required

Bonus Experience

  • Background in consumer products, ecommerce, or multi-channel retail
  • Experience with inventory accounting and complex COGS structures
  • Audit or Big 4 experience
  • ERP implementation or system migration exposure

Compensation and Work Setup

  • Full-time, on-site role based in Durham, North Carolina
  • Competitive salary aligned with experience and level
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Flexible PTO
  • Direct mentorship and exposure to executive leadership
  • Opportunity to build and own a critical function within a scaling business

Why This Role Stands Out
This is more than a typical Controller position. You will have real ownership, real visibility, and a direct impact on how the business operates and scales. If you are someone who enjoys rolling up your sleeves while influencing strategy, this role offers both challenge and growth in equal measure.

If this sounds like the kind of opportunity you have been looking for, we would love to hear from you.
