Data Engineer – Austin, TX

As one of the earliest members of the data team, you will design and scale the entire data ecosystem, from pipelines and data lakes to real-time analytics and BI tools. What You’ll Do

• Architect and implement a modern data platform, including scalable data lakes and warehousing solutions.
• Build robust ETL/ELT pipelines for real-time and batch data processing across diverse sources.
• Establish automated monitoring, validation, and alerting systems for data quality.
• Create self-service reporting dashboards and BI tools to empower teams with actionable insights.
• Develop streaming data solutions and orchestration workflows with technologies like Airflow and Kafka.
• Collaborate with business and product leaders to define KPIs, support predictive modeling, and enable A/B testing.
• Optimize system performance, costs, and infrastructure with best-in-class DataOps practices.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, with increasing responsibility.
• Proven success building or transforming data systems, ideally from scratch in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong skills in Python and SQL, with deep experience designing data pipelines and models.
• Expertise with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and modern data services.
• Familiarity with tools like Apache Airflow, Kafka, Kinesis, Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
• Understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure as code.
• Experience working in small or autonomous teams where ownership is critical.

Nice to Have

• Startup experience with real-time analytics or event-driven architectures.
• Knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, or data security best practices.
• Background in dimensional modeling and data warehouse design patterns.

• Location: Onsite in Austin, TX
• Type: Full-time
• Compensation: $180,000 per year + equity
• Benefits: 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision coverage, 401K, travel perks, and a $500 annual experience stipend
